Day 13. Discharge

I’m not out the door yet but we’re getting all the gates lined up for it to be a fairly simple push this afternoon. Life will be easier when I can make a formed stool in the next few weeks but staying hydrated and cleanly looks to be at least as easy at home. Anybody want further details?

Oh, and I now have about the same immune system as a 2-week infant, maybe slightly more competent but not much. My emotional development is considerably advanced from that but speculations on degree are not welcome.

  1. Glad you’re making it home. I gather your platelets, RBC and WBC counts are aiming towards normal levels?

Do you have to be re-vaccinated for all your childhood diseases again? When do they schedule that for?

  2. Correct assumptions, and an interesting question. Some have recovered immune competence for childhood diseases. Many have not. Though I might be a good candidate for skipping vaccinations I have a long history of not responding to them very well (never did get an antibody to hepatitis B after 5 shots from three preparations). We’ll re-evaluate in a year or so with bias towards revaccingation.

    • First reaction: Ew. I’m sure there would be concerns about bacterial and viral transmission.

Second Reaction: Interesting, but I think the metaphor of an infantile immune system is imperfect; I’m stronger than that.
